“Art Deco meets Asia or Asian Art Deco”, someone once said about my pieces.  Once again my objective for this series is to pursue the diverse connection between East and West.  I never realized that the old Korean wall patterns and arrangements in the shapes of pottery could be perceived as Art Deco.

Most of my closed-form jars are wheel-thrown into a whole piece and the lid was created by freehand cutting then a wood branch-like handle or little knob was added later.  Using decals, I add a series of patterns with colored terra sigillata, slip, or underglaze.  For select pieces, I usually do some carving of botanical images, utilizing techniques such as inlaying or sgraffito.  Several different glazes are hand-painted on each piece in order to create engaging aspects from every viewing angle. The smaller pieces are sold for sugar, tea, or jewelry containers.  I often sell the larger ones for a resting place for customers’ beloved pets.
